The COREnet research team from Belgrade (Teodora Jovanović, Aleksandra Đurić Milovanović and Đorđe Stojanović) has partnered with the Serbian branch of the humanitarian organisation ADRA (a global humanitarian organisation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) to organise a Narrative Café with migrants in Serbia on 26 September 2023.

The participants who agreed to participate in the Narrative café have lived in Serbia for several years. The group consisted of one female and five male participants. Participants were from Iran and Afghanistan.

During the Narrative café, the participants talked about the challenges of being a foreigner in Serbia and the challenges of obtaining refugee status (asylum). They also discussed the differences between the pressure to be religious in Iran and the freedom to be religious in Serbia.

This Narrative Café has given a deeper understanding of the issues faced by migrants arriving from Muslim countries to European countries. The insights gathered in the Narrative Café on the different migrant stories will be presented in scientific publications, enriching the research on migration and religion in Europe.
