SUMMARY:COREnet PhD Summer School "Religious and Non-Religious Narratives on Migration"
DESCRIPTION:Call for COST Action “Connecting Theory and Practical Issues of Migration and Religious Diversity” (COREnet) PhD Summer School applications\n“Religious and Non-Religious Narratives on Migration”\nNarratives on migration play a crucial role in public discourses and have a significant impact on the perception and treatment of migrants and on the development of social and political measures to deal with migration. Simultaneously\, migrants themselves have their own narratives on migration\, which are often not adequately represented in public discourses. In all these narratives\, the reference to ‘religion’ often assumes a central\, but also ambivalent function: religion-related motifs and themes in migration narratives can\, for example\, open up perspectives for meaning and action\, but also contribute to the stigmatization of migrants. \nInterdisciplinary migration research contributes to identify\, analyze\, and evaluate such narratives. Furthermore\, it itself provides resources for migration narratives that support migration societies in developing differentiated pictures of migration and in meeting the challenges ahead on an academic basis. \nThe COREnet PhD Summer School in cooperation with the Vienna Doctoral School for Theology and Religious Studies aims to provide early career researchers (PhDs and postdocs\, and researchers up to 40 years old) with the opportunity to discuss and deepen their knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary research on religious and non-religious narratives on migration. International academic teachers will present both Jewish\, Christian\, Muslim\, and interfaith perspectives on migration as well as religious and social science approaches to the politication of religion in migration narratives\, migration narratives in literature and\, last but not least\, narratives of refugees and migrants themselves. \nThe PhD Summer School also offers the students the opportunity to discuss\, get feedback and further develop their own research projects within the framework of reflecting migration narratives. \nThe aim of the PhD Summer School is to discuss and identify what religious and non-religious narratives can contribute to contemporary challenges in the field of migration from an interdisciplinary academic perspective. \nParticipants of the PhD Summer school will receive a certificate of attendance 3 ECTS worth if they submit a five pages written critical reflection of their research project from the perspective of discussing implicit and explicit narratives on migration after the training till 31 October 2023. \nOrganizers: COST action COREnet & Vienna Doctoral School for Theology and Religious Studies. \nPreliminary Programme of COREnet PhD Summer School (March 3\, 2023). \nWho can attend?\n\nPhD students and postdocs in all areas of the study of religion and migration (f.i. religious studies\, Christian theology\, Islamic Theology and Islamic studies\, philosophy\, sociology\, political science\, literature\, pedagogical studies\, ….etc.);\nYoung Researchers and Innovators (YRI) < 40 years old starting their research activities in the field of religion and migration.\n\nThere will be a pre-selection of applicants with the aim of reaching background balance (e.g.\, balance of academic disciplines\, gender balance\, country and institutional spread). \nTeachers and invited speakers\n\nAssoc. Successful applicants will be contacted directly by email on April 14\, 2023. \nApplicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria: \n\nEarly Career Investigators (ECIs) in the area of research on religion and migration;\nRelevance of applicants’ studies and research experience to the topics of the workshop;\nA balanced distribution of educational and geographical backgrounds among participants;\nQuality and clarity of research project description.\n\nEligible applicants can apply for reimbursement if they belong to a COST-Country. List of COST countries. \nNumber of applicants to be reimbursed: 15 (via COST). \nNumber of participants: 25 (10 places for participants of the Vienna Doctoral School for Theology and Religious Studies and other institutions). \nFunding\nSuccessful applicants will be reimbursed for travel expenses and a daily allowance to cover accommodation and meal costs. \n\nAccommodation and meals: 199 EUR per day (4 days covered)\n\nThe expenses will be reimbursed after completing the training school through the e-COST system. \nAfter receiving the acceptance email and the official e-COST invitation\, each participant must arrange travel and accommodation. \nContacts\n\nPhD Summer School scientific coordinator: Assoc.
